2011

first post of 2011! this is a mix-up of cammie, kimmy, and a little bit of isabel (new years eve night). i've noticed that all (most) of my pictures are centered so i need to work on that. this semester i'm only going to 2 schools (i dropped scad-art history) but i really need a job.

under 18-year-olds: do you have a job/do you like your job? where should i work? i've worked at an ice cream store and i kind of have no desire to work with food ever again, but if you like your food service job, where is it? thanks!

and does anyone have any good book suggestions? i need something to read.

cammie saw black swan so therefor she thinks she's a ballerina

  3. I love your images; you've inspired me to stop shooting digital for a while. No foodservice jobs, but I've worked at libraries and it's pretty spiffy (I love books). Except make sure that you never get stuck shelving nonfiction, because the Dewey Decimal System will kill you. Also, on the topic of books, you should check out the book The Dante Club. I'm reading it now, and it's pretty good.

it's kind of a funny story (then see the movie)
    go ask alice
the perks of being a wallflower

  10. I really like the last one.

I need a job too. I was hoping to get one at a nursery (like, plant nursery.) I thought that might be cool. I'm a library volunteer, so I would really like to work there. But openings are slim with the budget cuts.

As far as books go...I could give you a novel worth of books. Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata is excellent. By the cover that's made clear :-) The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck is my favorite novel. Also, Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain is excellent. Even if you aren't into cooking or anything like that, its just a really good, interesting, funny biography.

Hahaha and authoraiink, the dewy decimal keeps me sane. I hate shelving fiction..

  14. i love your photos...

Identity by Milan Kundera is an amazing book. Short enough to read in a single afternoon, but amazing nonetheless.

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn is magical and twisted and dark and enchanting and dysfunctional and sweet all at the same time. One of my all time favorites.

Currently reading 100 Years Of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and it's lovely.

  15. The photographs are amazing! happy new year.
i have been seeing your pictures since long time ago. and i love them!
    i adore your job!

Uhm to work is very hard for young people, im in the same problem that you are right now.
But with the difference that i live in Argentina, and its also more complicated, i think.
You should work in some photography store or studio, or something you like to do.
You should read something about "Cortazar" if you don't know him, is an argentinian master of literature and poetry.
i think you can found something in english of him to read.

good luck! and sorry for my english n.n

  24. I worked at dymocks book store for a year and it was pretty good, got a bit boring at times and I was the only young person working there, so I would probably recommened a library before that. My best friend works in the projection room at the local cinemas and it is a pretty awesome job, getting paid to watch movie? Yes please! And I dont know I feel something fight club-esque about it haha. I also worked at target as my first job, and well they take really good care of you there, and there is lots of casual to work with too which is good, its just not perhaps the most exciting thing to get up in the mornings for.. Hope this helps a little.
