i've been in chicago for a little bit over a month now. i haven't even had my first critique yet (in photo), but this semester we're studying digital (film is next semester). my teacher is great and didn't make us do those beginning assignments like "slow shutter speed, high iso, high dof, whatever", so we've had a lot of freedom. these are just a couple of pictures i've recently done. i miss miss miss my film camera. i'm doing video in my core class, so i might upload one of those too, later.

hi guys! i'm trying to save up money for chicago to buy art supplies and groceries and i don't have a job. i've made a little bit of money from graduation and babysitting but i still need a lot more to get by. so, i'll be selling prints up until i leave (august the 26th). i won't be selling prints until next summer so if you're interested in buying some, do it now! they're really nice prints, printed at my local lab where i develop all of my film, checked and signed by me. you get a free random 4x6 print with your order too!

i found julia off of model mayhem, and she's incredible! super sweet and pretty, you'll definitely see more of her later on. they're doing construction around one of my favorite photo places, so we couldn't shoot there, like we planned on, so we ended up shooting around the surrounding woods and at a school.

i've been going to seaview inn for years and years... my mom has been going there for at least 20 years now. it's a really weird place. they don't have internet, air conditioning, tv, radios, anything. they serve sweet tea with every meal. the food is incredibly fattening- i gained five pounds the week i was there. we know all of the staff by name and they know us. since they don't have cable or anything, you get to know all the other families that are there with you. we've even visited people who we know from our week at the inn. the week we go the place is over run with kids, it's actually really annoying, especially during nap time. i'm the oldest out of the kids so i end up being the one directing and teaching the games, especially with the younger ones. never play improv games with young kids. they're too loud and dramatic and they'll either end up getting hurt or getting you in trouble with their noise. one of the younger girls was so, so pretty and obviously very photogenic, and i really regret not taking her picture. she followed kimmy around the last few nights. it was nice to just eat, sleep, and take pictures for a week.

p.s. i got my wisdom teeth out yesterday so i'm really happy i got this post together a couple days ago. i'll have another one ready to go tomorrow!

i've completely abandoned fuji film (i'm so sorry fuji! you were good for a while there) and i've picked up kodak- it's way easier to find and it's prettier. kodak looks amazing in low light pictures! i think fuji might actually look better in bright light though... whatever these prints are incredibly pretty and i'm 100% for kodak now

i think this set was my least favorite (it was the first day i tried night pictures and we only took a few)
GOOD NEWS~
1) i finally figured out how to work my medium format camera (after i've had it for over a year... but hey i was scared to mess up because developing costs are so much! i messed up at least 3 rolls- all $15 each)
2) i picked a college! i'm going to school of the art institute of chicago this fall.

i am completely broke right now. to develop all of these rolls, i had to dig up all of my change and go to the coin star. i have like 10 cents left SO if you're interested in prints, please let me know! they're like $5 for 4x8s (add a dollar for each inch after that) i'm thinking of setting up a print website and getting them done at my local camera lab instead of snap fish because they don't really do a good job. email me at maryrobinsonn@gmail.com and i'll let you know when my website is done. tell me which print you're most interested in! (it can be anything off of my flickr or this blog)

weird florida forests

flordia has the weirdest forests- the trees are all skinny and are all lined up in neat rows. isabel and i found this forest on the side of a road near watercolor and when we were walking, we saw some weird filing cabinet looking boxes deeper in. when we got closer i saw that they were actually beehives- bah scaryyyy! i've never gotten stung by a bee or gotten a tick or anything on our photo adventures, which is really surprising (~knock on wood)

only one more post to go... i have one medium format roll that i'll get back in a few weeks and i have one roll that i need to finish that's still in my camera. i'm feeling really motivated about taking pictures so i'll probably have more to share soon!

i wanted this series to represent how girls are obsessed with looking perfect. i wanted kimmy to be "swimming" in a sea of perfect girls. that's what i was going for but it kind of ending up just being kimmy in a bath tub with something weird floating with her (you know how much i like doing that: see glitter, milk, tea, fish)
anyway, BIG shout out to kelly (and emily) and shriya for sending me barbies! kelly actually payed for the shipping (barbies are heavier than you'd think, so the shipping was a lot) and she sent me around 25 barbies. i couldn't have taken these without these amazing people!

i have so many ideas for these barbies. they're a part of a series i'm putting together- i'll pick one or two of these for the story for the final post, but since i haven't been posting a lot, i thought it'd post all of them anyway. i'm getting back into the swing of things~

so i thought that these were going to be double exposed with fireworks pictures... i'm so stupid and i have a horrible memory. that just shows you how often i've been using my camera- i don't even remember what roll is in there. i was trying to finish the roll quickly because i wanted to do the senses pictures.

hannah and i went to an abandoned house by my sister's school a few weeks ago. they're tearing it down now... they tear down all of the cool abandoned houses. this one had a really nice looking kitchen and i wish i could have come back with 800 film. we only took a few pictures and most of them were too dark. the few we took outside were too light. i'm a mess. but i do have another idea for her that i'm really excited about!

hey everyone! i have lots of shoots coming up (i hope nothing falls through) so hopefully i'll have more pictures to share with you. last year i was able to take tons and tons of pictures because i was homeschooled but this year i started to take more classes at a real college (not online) so i have less time. i'm also getting a job soon (hopefully!) yeah so i just wanted to explain why i haven't been posting much.

i really enjoyed how many people said they worked in a library! that's my dream job (along with being a secretary) but i think you have to be 18 to work there (and don't you need a library science degree or something like that?) nothing is available to 17 year olds. you have to be 18 to work anywhere cool.

first post of 2011! this is a mix-up of cammie, kimmy, and a little bit of isabel (new years eve night). i've noticed that all (most) of my pictures are centered so i need to work on that. this semester i'm only going to 2 schools (i dropped scad-art history) but i really need a job.

under 18-year-olds: do you have a job/do you like your job? where should i work? i've worked at an ice cream store and i kind of have no desire to work with food ever again, but if you like your food service job, where is it? thanks!

and does anyone have any good book suggestions? i need something to read.

i really haven't been feeling well lately. i don't know what it is because i remember being so inspired this time last year- i love fall and winter. i've been taking my medicine so hopefully that will help some. it's weird to go from taking at least two rolls of film per week to having a hard time finishing a roll a month. i think going to scad kind of made me less enthusiastic and that's really scary (especially if you're planning on going to art school). thank you all for being super supportive and nice to me- i hope you're all doing well!

so i redid some of the black and white pictures with kimmy. at the time i forgot i had black and white film in my camera and i was really looking forward to seeing them in color. i'm using expired film now because i don't have enough money to buy new film.

i finally finished my darkroom! yesterday isabel helped me develop my first roll (i'm not very good at developing film by myself) and then later that night i developed my first prints
also, pictures from a shoot i did with isabel last week. we couldn't get all of the bottles back so they're still floating around the lake. + some shots of madeline from a quick shoot last friday

finals week was incredibly hard. our assignment was to do a series so i decided to just do a quick shoot with mila in one of the many graveyards here. everyone had too much to do so it was hard to get anyone to model for more than 10 minutes. i'm not very happy that these were my last pictures here but it could have been worse i guess. today is my last day here. i'm going straight to the beach for a week tomorrow. i miss my film camera. p.s. i kind of just went off on the mini shoot i did with my sister earlier this month in the graveyard. i don't have a final copy of the edited pictures.
